Phaleas Peneste, a poor farmer’s orphan the new Guardians rescued from the devastating winter that killed his family, now serves as their mechanic. I really enjoyed this book. It is not steampunk, but a kind of post-apoc ancient Greece with automatons. The prose is very attractive and pleasant to read. It gets a little confusing at times, and could be a bit more emotionally evocative, but overall it is above average.The basic story is two men falling in love in an authoritarian... It was kind of cool, but at the same time, kind of confusing. Fal's the real MC and Ariston the LI when ostensibly, it's the other way around.There are allusions to Greek mythology/history, but I still kind of felt like I needed more information for it to really come together.The thing with Eudaimon...it was kind of cool because yeah,... 3.5. As an action/adventure/steampunk story its a 4, as a romance more of a 2.5. I like the unique take on steampunk, putting the advanced technology against a Classical, Greco-Roman sort of a world. That's something I haven't seen before. As for the technology, it's very well done, detailed and original. There are mechanical Guardians...
